Maternally Fit conducts exercise classes for pregnant and post-natal women. All classes are conducted by a Physiotherapist, with specialist training in exercise for pregnancy and the post-natal (after birth) period. Our classes are appropriate for both the novice and experienced exerciser, and each class will be individually tailored to your fitness needs and abilities. Classes are one hour in duration and consist of both cardio-vascular fitness and strength training. Classes are based around the use of the exercise ball and hand weights. Classes have a particular focus on core stability and pelvic floor training – the muscles you need to support your growing baby and your changing body. To enable Maternally Fit to give you the highest level of care, we take detailed information about many aspects of your pregnancy, and continue to monitor you throughout your time with us. To enable you to get the most out of our program, we expect members to attend at least one class per week. Classes are pre-booked and pre-paid. Our ultimate goal is for you to have a happy, healthy pregnancy, physically preparing you for one of the greatest challenges of your life – motherhood.

A doula supports women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood. It is becoming increasingly common for women to use a doula in addition to receiving pregnancy care from a midwife. Birth doulas provide flexible and continuous support before, during and often after the child is born. They may help with other children, encourage a partner with support while the child is being born, nurture and support the mother, and give support to help establish breastfeeding. Doulas also offer individualised support for mum to be as well as their partner preparing for birth drawing birth proposals, talking in depth about options and choices during pregnancy, labour and post birth as well as pain relief, breathing techniques and often a more natural and positive approach to pregnancy and labour making you feel always in control and giving you all the information you need to make informed decisions. Doulas often provide also a space to debrief from previous births especially if they were difficult or traumatic. Birth Support My birth package includes 2 prenatal visits, support during your labour and until you and baby are settled, and a postnatal visit usually within 10 days of the birth. During our prenatal meetings we will discuss your birth options, work on your birth plan, and discuss how we can make your birth a positive, and empowering experience. During the labour I will help you to feel safe and supported, making you comfortable with massage, acupressure or cold compresses, and helping you and your partner advocate for yourselves. I will stay until breastfeeding is established. In the 10 days after the birth I will make 1 postnatal visit, which will give you an opportunity to process the birth and to ask questions about breastfeeding or newborn care.
